Barcelona, May 26, (dpa/GNA) – Jonathan Andic is taking a leave of absence from the Spanish fashion company Mango, after coming under investigation over the death of the firm’s founder, his father Isak Andic.
In an open letter shared on Tuesday, the 45-year-old said he believed the decision was the best thing for the company and for himself, while he focuses on proving his innocence. Mango’s managing director, Toni Ruiz, assured Jonathan Andic of his support.
Jonathan Andic was detained by police in Barcelona on Tuesday last week, nearly a year and a half after his father’s death. A judge ordered his remand in custody, which was suspended upon payment of a bail of €1 million ($1.16 million). He was also required to surrender his passport and is not permitted to leave the country.
In the open letter, Jonathan Andic described the murder charge as unfair and unfounded, and said he would prove his innocence. He expressed his love for his family, and for his father in particular.
Isak Andic fell to his death on December 14, 2024 during a family outing in the Montserrat mountains, approximately 40 kilometres north-west of Barcelona. He was 71 years old at the time.
It was initially reported as an accident. However, as the investigation progressed, doubts were raised, and the founder’s son became the focus of the inquiry, partly because, according to media reports, he had given contradictory accounts of the incident.
The fashion company Mango achieved billions of euros in revenue in 2025. With 2,900 retail outlets in more than 120 countries and over 18,000 employees, Mango closed the past financial year with record turnover of more than €3.7 billion. This represented growth of 13% compared to 2024. According to the group, just under 80% of turnover is generated outside Spain.
