Wa, (UW/R), May. 4, GNA – A total of 14,928 candidates, comprising 6,706 males and 8,222 females from 628 schools, are expected to sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Upper West Region.
Mr Donald Tuor, the Upper West Regional Controller of the West African Examination Council (WAC), who revealed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, added that the examination was being conducted in 51 centres across the region.
He said 309 private candidates, comprising 179 males and 180 females, were also expected to write the BECE in the region at a centre located at the WAEC Exams Hall.
In the Wa Municipality, Mr Saaka K. Adamu, the Municipal Exams Officer, told the GNA that 3,850 candidates had registered for the exams in the Municipality.
Out of that number, 1,775 were males, while 2,075 were females, with the exams being conducted in twelve centres.
He said the exercise in the municipality had been smooth so far, as no hitches had been recorded.
From the Lambussie District, Joseph Agrace Wiyorbie reports that the BECE was progressing smoothly in that district.
He said a visit by GNA to some of the centres, including the Lambussie community Day and Piina Senior High Schools, showed that the examination was going well at all those centres.
Mr Puorizuma Gilbert, the exams officer at Piina Senior High School Centre, said 388 candidates from 14 schools sat for the examination.
He said no candidate was absent at the time of the visit and that there were no challenges recorded.
