Wenchi (Bono), May 21, GNA – Mr Richard Kwadwo Adu, a constituency chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wenchi, has urged party supporters to remain resilient and not be intimidated while in opposition.

He stressed that the party must stay formidable and resolute to withstand what he described as the “growing weaponisation of state institutions” against its communicators and members.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wenchi, Mr Adu, popularly known in political circles as “Napo Jnr,” said recurring arrests and attacks on NPP members were deliberate attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to intimidate and silence the party’s communicators.

Mr Adu, a former Wenchi Constituency Youth Organiser and former Assembly Member for the Wenchi Ntoase Electoral Area, cited the arrests and detention of Mr Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, and Mr Yakubu Abubakari, the Sunyani East Communications Officer, as examples, saying  that  those were clear indications that “The NDC government is determine to use state machineries to tame our communicators form exposing their rots.”

He noted that since 1992, the NPP had never succumbed to intimidation and would not do so now, urging the government instead to focus on fulfilling its 2024 election campaign promises.

Touching on the party’s upcoming constituency elections, Mr Adu said polling station and constituency structures remained the backbone of the NPP, and appealed to delegates to make informed choices.

He called for the election of “fearless and highly connected executives” who could match the NDC “boot for boot” in the 2028 general election and help return the NPP to power.

Mr Adu pledged, if elected, to mobilise resources to strengthen the constituency office and work to reunite all disgruntled members and supporters.

He also called for unity within the party, saying the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer, former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, valued cohesion.

“Our Election 2028 flagbearer former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia believes and cherishes party unity and we must all support him towards strengthening our internal unity for the NPP to win the Election 2028,” he stated.

Mr Adu expressed optimism that his track record and contributions to the party would convince delegates to elect him to lead and reposition the NPP in the constituency ahead of the next general election.
