Tamale, May 04, GNA – Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister has encouraged candidates writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations in the Northern Region to remain calm, confident and avoid any form of examination malpractice.
He urged the candidates to feel comfortable with the environment and said the invigilators were present to supervise them but not to intimidate them.
Mr John gave the encouragement on Monday when he visited selected examination centres in Tamale at the start of the nationwide examinations.
The Minister was accompanied by officials from the Regional Directorate of Education. Some of the centres visited were Vittin Senior High School (SHS), Ghana SHS and Saint Charles SHS.
A total of 37,111 candidates from 808 schools in the region are expected to sit for the examinations at 132 centres.
Out of the figure, 33,329 candidates are from public schools comprising 17,209 males and 16,120 females, while 3,782 candidates are from private schools including 1,817 males and 1,965 females.
Mr John told the candidates to be fearless and write what they knew was right and cautioned them against examination malpractices, indicating that any candidate caught engaging in such acts would face sanctions.
He emphasized the importance of integrity and encouraged the candidates to rely on their own knowledge, saying certificates obtained through dishonest means would not be defensible in the future, especially when progressing to higher levels of education.
He said “Write what you think is right so that when you obtain your certificate, you can defend it anywhere.”
Meanwhile, to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations, 132 supervisors, 130 assistant supervisors, and 1,321 invigilators have been deployed across the examination centres.
