Accra, May 8, GNA – Mr Nii Ashitei Ashietey, a former Branch Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to fully cover nomination filing fees and membership dues for all branch executives within the Klottey Korle Constituency ahead of the party’s 2026 grassroots elections.
The initiative, which seeks to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, is aimed at ensuring that branch executives are able to participate fully in the electoral process without financial constraints.
Mr Ashietey, who is a data analytics engineer, said the gesture was intended to remove barriers that often prevented capable and committed party members from actively engaging in grassroots leadership.
“This support is about ensuring that financial barriers do not limit participation,” Mr. Ashietey said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
“We want committed individuals to step forward and contribute to building a stronger party at the grassroots level.”
The intervention comes as the NDC intensifies preparations for its nationwide internal elections, which began with the opening of nominations for branch elections across the country.
According to the party’s reorganisation roadmap, branch elections are scheduled to take place between May 20 and June 30, 2026, as part of a bottom-up electoral process that will culminate in the election of national executives on December 19, 2026.
Political analysts have described grassroots elections as a critical component of the NDC’s organisational framework, noting that branch executives play a vital role in mobilising support and shaping the party’s future leadership direction at the constituency, regional and national levels.
Mr Ashietey emphasised that beyond easing the financial burden on branch executives, the initiative was also designed to encourage wider participation and strengthen local party structures within the constituency.
He reiterated his commitment to the development of the constituency, stressing that empowering grassroots executives remained essential to building a resilient and effective political organisation.
Some party members and residents within the constituency have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial, particularly for younger and less-resourced aspirants seeking to contribute to the party’s grassroots leadership.
Observers say the move is likely to promote competitiveness and fairness in the ongoing electoral process by creating a level playing field for interested candidates.
The NDC has indicated that its 2026 internal reorganisation exercise is aimed at consolidating the party’s structures ahead of future national elections.
