Lordina Mahama honoured for decade of humanitarian impact

The First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, has been honoured by the Merck Foundation in recognition of her humanitarian contributions through the Lordina Foundation over the past decade.

The recognition follows her appointment as an Ambassador for the Merck Foundation’s “More Than a Mother” campaign project.

Speaking at the Merck Foundation Ghana Alumni Summit 2026 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Dr Rasha Kelej, Chief Executive Officer of the Merck Foundation, said Mrs Mahama’s interventions in education, healthcare and women’s empowerment had transformed the lives of thousands of vulnerable people across Ghana.

She noted that the First Lady’s contributions included supporting girls’ education through initiatives such as the “More Than a Mother” campaign and the “Educating Linda” programme, while also helping to fight child marriage and poverty in deprived communities.

Assisted by Professor Dr Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Dr Kelej, who commended Mrs Mahama for supporting the annual Merck Foundation Media Recognition Awards, also presented a plaque to her.

In her remarks, Mrs Mahama said the Lordina Foundation had invested in the future of Ghanaian healthcare by providing scholarships to 40 medical professionals, many of whom are now delivering specialised care across the country.

She added that the Foundation had also supported more than 110 people through creative arts and ICT training programmes.
