Dambai (O/R), May 13, GNA – The Krachi East Municipal Assembly has been selected to host a Model One 24-Hour Economy Market, the highest category under the Government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme in the Oti Region.
Mr Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), announced this during the official handing over of the project site to the construction firm, Joy-Joy Company Limited, at Dambai Lakeside, near the “I Beg God” yard.
He explained that the 24-Hour Economy Programme is structured into four models, with Model One designed to provide the most extensive infrastructure and operational capacity.
Mr Nketia said while other districts in the region would receive markets with about 100 stores, the Krachi East facility would be significantly larger, positioning the municipality as a key regional hub for trade and services.
“The packages under the Krachi East 24-Hour Economy Market are very huge compared to other districts in the region. This is an opportunity we must protect and use to transform the local economy,” he stated.
He said the facility would include a police station, fire station, clinic, day-care centre, garage, and other essential support services to facilitate round-the-clock economic activities.
The MCE added that the project was expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents and stimulate commercial activities in the municipality.
Mr Kofi Aidoo, Project Manager of Joy-Joy Company Limited, assured stakeholders of the firm’s commitment to quality delivery and pledged to complete the project within 24 months, ahead of the stipulated 30-month contract period.
Mr Frimpong George, an engineer with Fast Thinkers Company Limited, the supervising firm for the 24-Hour Economy Market projects in the Oti region, briefed traditional leaders, technocrats, party executives and Assembly Members on the scope of the project.
He indicated that the design aimed at promoting continuous productivity and expanding access to modern trading facilities.
Nana Kwaku Beyennor II, Chief of Dambai, welcomed the project and appealed to the contractor to prioritise the employment of local youth to ensure that the community directly benefits from the initiative.
