Accra, Oct.22, GNA-Ghanaian table tennis player Joanita Borteye is aiming for a strong performance at the 2026 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Championships in Tangier, Morocco, scheduled for October 18 to 25.
Borteye earned her qualification for the continental competition through the ITTF World Rankings and would be seeking to build on her growing international experience as she competes against some of Africa’s leading players.
The young Ghanaian previously competed at the senior African Championships, making her debut at the 2025 edition in Tunis, Tunisia.
That experience would be expected to provide valuable lessons as she returns to the continental stage with increased exposure to the demands of senior-level competition.
Borteye has also recorded notable success in youth table tennis.
In July 2026, she partnered Israel Aklie to win the U15 mixed doubles title at the ITTF-Africa Youth Championships in Accra.
The pair defeated Tunisia in the final to secure Ghana’s first gold medal at a major African table tennis championship since 1987.
Her impressive performances extended to domestic competitions, where she would continue to demonstrate her potential.
At the Damba Table Tennis Championship in May 2026, Borteye won both the Under-19 Girls’ Singles and senior Women’s Singles titles, defeating Cynthia Kwabi in the senior women’s final.
The double triumph highlighted her versatility and ability to compete successfully across different levels of the sport.
As she prepares for the championships in Morocco, Borteye would be hoping to translate her recent progress and experience into an impressive showing against the continent’s established players.
The competition offers another opportunity for the Ghanaian to assess her development at the senior level and strengthen her position on the international table tennis scene.
The 2026 ITTF African Championships are scheduled to take place in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25.
