Accra, May 2, GNA – The Inter Tourism Expo Accra has organised a specialised training programme to build the capacity of journalists and content creators to enhance quality reporting on tourism, hospitality and business.
The training, organised in partnership with the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Programme, sought to equip participants with strategic tools for promoting Ghana’s tourism potential through purposeful and impactful storytelling.
Speaking at the event, Mr Emmanuel Treku, Chief Executive Officer of Inter Tourism Expo Accra, said the training had helped reframe tourism reporting as a critical tool for national development rather than mere surface-level coverage.
“The feedback has been extremely encouraging. Many participants shared how these sessions reshaped their understanding of the sector, providing a catalyst for more structured and impactful storytelling,” he stated.
Mr Treku expressed confidence that the trained media professionals would champion destination storytelling and help increase visibility for Ghana’s tourism agenda on both local and international platforms.
He said the workshop marked the beginning of a series of capacity-building initiatives, with more training opportunities planned in the coming months.
Mr Treku commended the management of Eden Gardens Hotel for providing the venue and logistical support for the programme.
Madam Rebecca Ekpe, Vice-President of the Ghana Journalists Association and Founder of the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Programme, urged journalists to go beyond routine reporting and adopt narratives that would inspire domestic and international travel, attract investment, and project a positive image of Ghana globally.
She said: “We are not just training journalists, we are building a movement,” highlighting the transformative power of a dedicated press corps.
Some participants, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, described the training as timely and practical, and recommended that future sessions focus on specialised areas such as destination marketing, investment reporting and digital storytelling.
A key outcome of the training was the proposal to form a Tourism Press Corps to sustain collaboration and specialised coverage of the sector.
