Adaklu Ahunda Boso (V/R), May 30, 2026 (GNA) – GOSANET Foundation, a health-focused non-governmental organisation based in the Adaklu District, on Friday organised a refresher training workshop for Community-Based Health Volunteers drawn from the Adaklu Ahunda and Adaklu Helekpe sub-districts at Adaklu Ahunda Boso.

Mr Samuel Yao Atidzah, Executive Director of GOSANET Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the training formed part of the National Malaria Elimination Programme being implemented by the Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Adaklu District.

He said the volunteers were equipped with knowledge and skills in Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) as well as malaria prevention strategies.

Mr Atidzah explained that participants were also trained in community sensitisation approaches, the identification and follow-up of pregnant women, and the importance of the uptake of sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) among expectant mothers.

He urged the volunteers to make effective use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to support efforts aimed at eliminating malaria from their communities.

According to Mr Atidzah, the volunteers will, after the training, embark on educational campaigns in schools, churches, mosques, and markets. They will also organise community sensitisation programmes and town hall meetings in 15 selected communities across the district from June to September this year.

He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting community health interventions and malaria elimination efforts within the Adaklu District.

Mr Atidzah commended the Ghana Health Service, the facilitators, and the volunteers for their dedication and support towards the successful implementation of the training programme, as well as their commitment to the fight against malaria in their communities.

Madam Ernestine Dzifa Adu, a midwife at the Adaklu Ahunda Boso Health Centre, called on the volunteers to educate pregnant women on the importance of consistently sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets and adhering to prescribed medication.

Ms Lynda Buatsi, Adaklu District Health Promotion Officer, took participants through the importance of antenatal care and effective community engagement approaches.

The volunteers pledged their commitment to supporting malaria prevention activities in their respective communities.
