Kumasi, May 5, GNA — The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called for an immediate review of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) to ensure that teachers’ remuneration reflects their critical role in national development.
The Association also announced its acceptance of the Government’s “Teacher Dabre” policy, which focuses on Duty Post Accommodation, and urged authorities to expedite steps towards its full implementation.
These resolutions were contained in a communiqué signed by Mr. Prosper Tachie, the National President of GNAT, following the 2026 National Delegates Conference.
The conference, held under the theme: “Education and Development: The GES @50 – Reflecting, Reviewing, Revitalising and Growing the Profession and the Unions,” also endorsed the Presidency’s commitment to pay a 20 per cent monthly allowance to teachers serving in deprived areas, and called for its full and immediate implementation.
Delegates further welcomed the directive from the President to initiate processes for the promotion of eligible staff.
The GNAT additionally urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service to publish a clear annual timetable for conducting promotion aptitude tests and placing qualified candidates on the appropriate salary scales.
The communiqué also appealed to the Government to extend maternity leave for teachers from three months to four months.
It further called for the publication of the report of the National Education Forum organised by the Government.
