Accra, Aug. 14, GNA – Mr Samson Deen, Chairperson of the newly inaugurated Resource Mobilisation Partnership Committee of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has proposed the introduction of Constituency Games as a nationwide platform to identify and develop sports talent.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Accra on Friday, Mr Deen said the initiative would create structured opportunities for young athletes across the country to be discovered and nurtured for national and international competitions.
He described the proposed Constituency Games as a community-driven talent identification programme that would bring sports development closer to the grassroots.
“Constituency Games is a community-owned national talent discovery platform,” he said, adding that while local communities would take ownership of the initiative, the NSA would oversee the sporting activities.
Mr. Deen said Regional Coordinating Councils would coordinate activities within their respective jurisdictions, providing a pathway for promising athletes to progress through the system.
According to him, the concept is aimed at ensuring that every constituency could produce future sporting champions for Ghana.
The committee chairman said the NSA would also seek partnerships with corporate organisations, development agencies, diplomatic missions, international sports bodies, local communities and the media to support sports development nationwide.
He stressed that such collaborations must be anchored on clear objectives, transparency and measurable outcomes to ensure long-term impact.
Mr Deen identified the proposed Constituency Games as one of the flagship initiatives through which strategic partnerships could contribute to the growth of sports in Ghana.
He also announced plans to advance a proposed US$30 million National Sports Revival and Podium Investment Programme, which he said would provide sustained funding for the country’s sports sector.
The programme, he noted, is expected to strengthen efforts to revive sports and improve Ghana’s capacity to produce athletes capable of competing successfully at the highest international level.
Mr Deen said both initiatives formed part of a broader strategy to establish a sustainable system for identifying, developing and supporting sporting talent from the grassroots.
“The ultimate goal is to ensure that talented young people, regardless of where they come from, have the opportunity to develop their abilities and contribute to Ghana’s sporting success,” he said.
