Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations: Muslim Caucus urges peace, unity

Accra, May 27, GNA – The Muslim Caucus of Parliament, has called on Muslims across Ghana to mark Wedneaday’s Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in an atmosphere of peace, unity, mutual respect, and national harmony.

The appeal comes as Muslims in Ghana and around the world prepare to observe one of the most significant festivals on the Islamic calendar, which commemorates sacrifice, obedience, and devotion.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed annually by Muslims worldwide to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

Madam Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga who made a statement on behalf of the Caucus on the Floor of Parliament, emphasised the importance of maintaining peaceful coexistence among all religious groups in Ghana during the celebrations.

She noted that Ghana’s long-standing reputation for religious tolerance remained one of its strongest national assets, urging citizens to protect and uphold it, especially during significant religious observances such as Eid-ul-Adha.

She said: “Mr. Speaker, Ghana’s strength lies in our religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence. As we celebrate, I urge all Ghanaians, particularly the Muslim Ummah, to observe Eid-ul-Adha in an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect, and harmony.”

The MP also extended a message of goodwill to the broader Muslim Ummah, encouraging worshippers to embrace the values of peace, mutual respect, and harmony as they engage in prayers, sacrifices, and festive activities nationwide.

Madam Ibrahimah urged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the core teachings of Eid-ul-Adha, which include sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion for others, and generosity toward the less privileged.

“As we mark this occasion, may the lessons of sacrifice, obedience and compassion inspire all of us in Parliament and across Ghana to place the common good above self-interest and to work together for a just, united and prosperous nation,” she said.
