Duayaw-Nkwanta, (Ahafo), May 01, GNA-Dr Freda Prempeh, a legislator has urged the government to be sensitive in addressing the nation’s present power crisis for private sector growth, as the nation observes the Workers Day of Solidarity.
Also known as May Day and a public holiday, the country’s working population joined millions around the world to observe the Day on the theme: “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macroeconomic Stability”.
Dr Prempeh a former Member of Parliament for Tano North in the Ahafo Region and former Minister of State gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the region.
She described the nation’s present power crisis, also labelled as “Dumsor” as worrying and unacceptable, cautioning that: “If the situation continues then private business is going to collapse”.
Dr Prempeh, also the Founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation (UWF), an NGO noted that many indigenous women in the country relied largely on electricity supply for their businesses and asked the government to be sensitive enough to tackle the frequent power fluctuation to save their businesses.
She explained that UWF sought to unearth the potential and empower indigenous women to know their worth and contribute positively to building a better society for all, saying that” It’s unfortunate the nation is going through this mess, denying depriving indigenous women their source of livelihoods”.
“In fact, the power crisis in the country keeps worsening under successive National Democratic Congress governments and frequent electricality propels business growth and economic development”, she stated.
Dr Prempeh emphasised that sustaining business growth and progress development could not be achieved, saying that: “If the government wants to create an enabling environment for the private sector which serves as the engine of growth, then, the dumsor must be condemned and must end now”.
The former MP, however, commended all workers for their immeasurable contributions towards progressive national development.
