Amongoase (Bono), May 20, GNA – A nine-year-old boy identified only as Issah has died after slipping into a gutter at Amongoase in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region following a heavy downpour on Tuesday, May 19.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered from residents that the incident occurred between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., when the deceased was returning to his sleeping place after having dinner at the family house.

In an interview, Madam Donkor, the boy’s grandmother, said Issah left the house shortly after the rainfall, and some bystanders later heard him cry for help. However, attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful as floodwaters swept him away.

She added that community members subsequently informed personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who later retrieved the lifeless body.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
