Accra, May 26, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana have opened camp in Cardiff as head coach Carlos Queiroz intensified preparations for next week’s international friendly against Wales and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A total of 13 players trained at Dragon Park on Monday, with the rest of the squad expected to join on Tuesday.

Those in camp include Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jordan Ayew, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Elisha Owusu, Gideon Mensah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku, Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Solomon Agbasi, and Alidu Seidu.

The team would train in Cardiff for a week before facing Wales on Tuesday, June 2, after which they would travel to the United States as part of their final build-up to the 2026 World Cup.

Queiroz is expected to use the camping period to assess his squad ahead of submitting his final 26-man list to FIFA on Monday, June 1, in line with competition regulations.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, and would open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in subsequent matches.

With few days until the World Cup opener, Queiroz has issued a rallying call to players and fans, urging unity, sacrifice and discipline as the team embarks on what he described as a demanding mission.

“To all Black Stars football fans. Today, with 24 days remaining before the first World Cup challenge, we begin what many call a mission (Im) possible,” Queiroz said in an open letter.

“We know the price that must be paid — sacrifice, discipline, relentless effort and total dedication if we are honour the dreams and expectations of the people of Ghana.

“Our dream is to make the difference at the end; we have to start by being different at the beginning.

“And when the mission is to serve the pride, prestige, and football soul of Ghana, pain becomes a privilege, sacrifice becomes duty and commitment becomes our identity.

“We are ready to fight together for every ball, every moment for our dream.”
