Fiapre, (Bono), May 5, GNA-Contractors executing the Sunyani Outer Ring Road Project say they are preparing to commence asphalt works on the 34-kilometre stretch, being executed under the government’s “Big Push” road infrastructure programme.

President John Dramani Mahama performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the project on December 21, 2025, to boost economic growth, reduce congestion and improve connectivity in the regional capital.

During a visit, Mr Kofi Kamkam, the Site Engineer of the Kofi Job Company Limited, the contractors, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) earth works (cut and fill to formation to make way for the pavement layers to begin) were progressing.

Mr Kamkam said: “That means the contractors are getting closer to the asphaltic preparations” and he explained that so far, the length prepared to formation was about six-kilometres.

Besides, he added that concrete works on various sections of the ring road were also progressing steadily, indicating that the percentage on both ‘Lot 1’ and ‘Lot 2’ were 49 percent and 43 percent respectively.

Mr Kamkam said the company appreciated the cooperation from the traditional authorities, residents and stakeholders.

He pledged the company’s dedication to deliver excellent work, assuring that the project execution would meet the required standard and would be completed within the two-year timeline.

Mr Kamkam explained that the road project linked communities like Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim as well as Old Odomase and New Odomase connecting to the main Sunyani Abesim-highway.

Meanwhile, some residents along the stretch commended the contractors, appreciating the speedy progress on the project, and hoped that the project’s execution would not be stalled halfway.

Mr Joshua Kwadwo Kyere, a resident at Asufufu said: “We are happy about the way and manner the project is progressing” and assured the people’s cooperation and support to the contractors.”

He however asked the contractors to manage that dust that emanated from the stretch to safeguard the health of the people.

“We often see the contractors and workers on site everyday” Madam Comfort Akrugu, a shopkeeper happily stated, saying that she was highly optimistic that with the pace of work, the project would be completed on time to facilitate the movements of the people and their economic activities.
