Accra, May 11, GNA – The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana Chapter has congratulated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle on her election as Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
The PAP was established in 2004 as a legislative organ of the African Union, to promote democratic governance and continental integration, headquartered in South Africa, made up of 229 members from 52 AU member states.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election as the second vice president of PAP, marks the second time Ghana has occupied a top leadership position in the Parliament and the first woman to serve in that capacity since its establishment.
Dr. Charity Binka, Chairperson of AWLN Ghana, in a statement described the achievement as a moment of national and continental pride, reflecting her commitment to democratic governance and inclusive leadership.
“Her election is both a personal milestone and a significant achievement for Ghana and Africa. It reflects her consistent demonstration of principled leadership, integrity, and dedication to public service,” the statement said.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, who also serves as Co-Chair of AWLN’s Governance and Political participation pillar, had over the years distinguished herself through competence and a forward-looking vision that resonated across the continent.
AWLN Ghana believes that having been elected at a critical time when Africa required responsive leadership within its continental institutions, there was no doubt that she would deliver to the best of her abilities and expectation.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’s success serves as a beacon of inspiration to young women and girls, demonstrating that leadership at the highest levels is attainable and impactful.
Whiles expressing confidence in her wealth of experience, passion for service, and strong advocacy for equity and inclusion, Dr Binka reaffirmed AWLN’s commitment to supporting women leaders and creating platforms that nurtured and sustained women’s participation in decision-making processes.
