Accra, May 28, GNA – The St. Augustine’s College 1985-year group (APSU’85) has donated clothing valued at GHS75,000 to the Chosen Children Centre in Darkuman, Accra.

The items will serve as uniforms for the children at the facility.

This follows the presentation of medical supplies valued at more than GHS200,000 to the Ghana Prisons Service, over the past year.

Dr Ken Owusu, Leader of APSU’85, said the gesture formed part of the year group’s social responsibility initiative, 40 years after completing St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast.

“We are committed to giving back to society and supporting the underprivileged. This is our way of making an impact,” Dr Owusu said.

Mr Prince Samuel Mensah, Organising Secretary of APSU’85, explained that the clothing was received from a partner in the United Kingdom.

“It will be useful at the orphanage, which is why we chose to come here,” Mr Mensah said during the presentation event .

“This is the first of its kind, and more support will be extended to other institutions in need,” he emphasised.

The Co-founder of the Chosen Children Centre, Mrs Abena Washington, thanked APSU’85 for the donation.

“We are grateful for this support. It will go a long way to help the children,” she said.

Mrs Washington said the centre had operated for 16 years and currently cares for 65 children referred by the public, hospitals and the Department of Social Welfare.

The children are also educated and given medical care by the centre.

She appealed for support to complete a stalled building project, noting that the centre relied largely on philanthropists and the public.
