Bakado (WR), May 8, GNA – A delegation from the African Development Bank together with donors have visited selected projects under the African City Programme implemented by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in the Western Region.
The visit, according to the head of Delegation was to enable the Bank and donor partners familiarize, have a better appreciation of the projects presented in the proposals, offer technical assistance and meet the urgent needs of the communities under consideration.
The team members were taken to Bakado, a low-lying area characterised by incessant flooding. The STMA intends to construct a centralised sewage system and develop the park as a water shed to reduce flooding.
At the Sofokrom dumping site, the STMA announced to the team an intention to introduce waste segregation to control waste generation and ensure proper disposal.
The team members were taken round the dilapidated Sekondi market and drainage systems as well as the halted Takoradi market and the truck terminal at Mpintsin.
Mr. Faustinus Faidoo, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the STMA, said the Metropolis was prepared to improve the livelihoods of the people and ensured that projects and programmes were climate resilient.
Earlier, Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, welcomed the team and noted how key development was relevant to growth and enhanced livelihoods and praised the team for choosing to invest in the twin city.
He said, “Development is key, and we are grateful for your support.”
The STMA would work around priority projects including waste management, car parks, transportation, and Haulage terminals, agriculture and Market development.
