Komfueku (WR), May 8, GNA – Mr. Percy Ahenakwah, the Assembly Member for Komfueku in collaboration with the Shama District Police Commander, has engaged motorbikes operators in the area on the rising level of indiscipline among riders.
The activities of Motorbikes (Okada) and Tricycle (Aboboyaa) riders within the Komfueku community, without recourse to pedestrians, passenger and even rider safety, had contributed to avoidable crashes and deaths in the area.
The riders’ inactions, like most riders within Western Region as a matter of urgency, required the road safety and the MTTD to up their game on strict adherence to road safety regulations.
Mr Ahenakwa, briefing the Ghana News Agency after their engagement said the community have resolved on the following; “ Ban of Funeral Displays, the community says no rider should ride carelessly during funerals of a fellow rider to prevent accidents and maintain public decorum”.
Also, all riders must possess a valid rider’s license. This ensures that everyone on the road has been tested on traffic laws and bike control.
The stakeholders agreed that only adults should be allowed to operate a motorbike, and a total ban on noise-making had also been established.
The Assembly member for Komfueku urged all riders and residents to cooperate fully in observing the resolutions to ensure safety, orderliness, and peaceful coexistence within the Komfueku community.
