Western Regional Council of State Member holds meeting with Eastern Nzema Traditional Council

Atuabo (W/R), April 17, GNA-Dr Maxwell Boakye, Western Regional Member of the Council of State has assured the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council of his resolve to team up with the requisite authorities to collaborate with the Council to spearhead the rapid socio-economic development of the area.

Dr Boakye who said this when he called on the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District stated that he was ready to collaborate with Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament ( MP) for Ellembelle and Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, District Chief Executive ( DCE) to chart a common path for development of the area.

The visit formed part of Dr Boakye’s familiarization tour of traditional councils in the Western Region to officially introduce himself to the Traditional Councils after his election as the Western Regional Member of the Council of State last year.

Dr Boakye who was accompanied by Mr Stephen Blay, National Director of Community Development at the Council of State, Nana Toku, Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC )and Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, among others, recognized the pivotal role traditional rulers played in his mission of ensuring peace, unity and development in the Western Region.

He commended Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah,the MP for Ellembelle and Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, DCE for their team spirit to push the developmental drive of the District.

For his part, Awulae Blay IX, Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Area thanked the Council of State Member for the relations that had existed between the two and the traditional council.

Awulae Blay IX who is also President of the Council, pledged their readiness to team up with Dr Boakye to fast track the development of Ellembelle.

He appealed for the Council of State Member to use his office to remind the President of the reconstruction of Phase two of the Ghana National Gas Processing Plant project at Atuabo.

The reconstruction of the road from Aiyinasi -North to Prestea to open up the area for commerce and industry.

Awulae Blay IX further appealed for the construction of the Lonhro Free Port project at Atuabo, a District Hospital, an international airport and a filling station for the traditional council.

The establishment of an oil and gas university like that of UMAT in Tarkwa as well as an emergency and rescue centres in Ellembelle to deal with accidents in the area.

Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle thanked Dr Boakye for making the Western Region proud with a proven track record in the last one year.

He said the Assembly and the traditional council would deepen the collaboration to benefit from his office as a son of the Region.

The traditional council presented a ram, traditional cloth and a plaque to Dr Boakye as a mark of honour.
