Wenchi, (Bono), April 27, GNA-Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive has officially handed over the 24-hour market project site at Wenchi, the municipal capital to contractors, asking them to speed up the construction of the project.
She said the components of the standard market comprised lockable shops, market sheds, police and fire service posts, restaurants, cold room, warehouse, washrooms, pharmacy shop, information center and house the proposed Women Development Bank.
Crexcon Ghana Limited and PPMC Consuls are executing the projects expected to be completed within 30 months.
Speaking at a sod cutting ceremony at Wenchi, Mad Gyamfi noted that the construction of the market was a significant milestone that would open up the Municipality and spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
She said the project was very dear to the government, saying that on completion it would boost the local economy, create direct job opportunities for the youth, and enhance the Assembly’s revenue generation.
Mad Gyamfi added that the traders, and market women and businesses in the area would also have dignified spaces for their economic activities.
Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi said the project reflected the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama’s led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to boost trade, create jobs and an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.
He expressed optimism that the project would enhance socio-economic livelihoods, improve service delivery, and advance progressive development when completed.
Nana Agyei Ampem Ankoma Dadaa IV, the Benkumhene (sub-chief) of the Wenchi Traditional Area, commended the government for the project and hoped that it would be completed on time to serve as catalyst to boost economic growth and development.
Engineer Bernard Asiedu Amponsah, the site contractor of the Crexcon Ghana Limited pledged to complete the project on time and called for the cooperation from the people.
