TWMA unveils modern redevelopment plan for Community 2 Market

Tema, April 01, GNA — The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has announced a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the Tema Community 2 Market, to address perennial flooding and poor infrastructural conditions that have long hampered trading activities.

Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, explained that the goal was to fix old problems and create a high-quality landmark for the municipality.

Mr Totimeh announced a plan for traders to move temporarily to the park behind the Aggrey Road, for the construction of the municipality’s 24-hour market.

The MCE noted that the assembly would build temporary sheds at the park for the market women to use during the construction period, adding that the traders would be informed on the date for them to relocate.

He gave the assurance that the relocation would be for a short period if the project construction stayed within schedule.

He also asked those with shops or containers near the construction site to cooperate with the assembly if their structures need to be adjusted to accommodate the traders from the market.

Ms Mary Ennoo, the assemblywoman for the area, emphasised that the project was not political but rather to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.

Ms Ennoo said the current market was bedeviled with many challenges, with the major one being the ground becoming muddy whenever it rained, stating that the community cannot wait for a disaster to happen before providing traders with a decent place to work.

She gave a firm promise that the project would include everyone and guaranteed that every trader currently in the market would get a space in the new building.

She confirmed that a verified list of all current traders has been made to ensure a fair process which would make sure that no one was left out when the new stalls were handed out.

Ms Ennoo said the new market would serve as a community hub, with a daycare center for children, a first-aid clinic, and modern toilets.

The MCE and assembly woman, called for unity and reminded residents that the benefits of a clean and safe market would be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their political affiliation.
