Cape Coast, April 28, GNA – Two people died while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a Tuesday morning fatal vehicular crash at Third Ridge Junction in Cape Coast.

The crash, which occurred around 07:00 hours on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number GW-5769-16 and a HOWO tipper truck with registration number GN-1497-22.

The Toyota Corolla was irreparably mangled, trapping the driver and his passenger behind.

A rescue team from the Central Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service was swift to respond to the incident.

Under the supervision of ACFO Merinder Mary Attigah-Mensah, the Regional Commander, the team managed to extricate the Corolla driver and the passenger, but they were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The Corolla, which was traveling from Cape Coast towards Accra, slowed down to save a pick-up vehicle that was dangerously overtaking from colliding with the oncoming HOWO tipper truck, according to some eyewitnesses.

The tipper truck reportedly moved to the outer lane to make way for the pick-up, but unfortunately lost control and crashed into the Corolla, resulting in the deaths and injuries.

Both the injured and the deceased were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment and preservation respectively.

ACFO Attigah-Mensah warned drivers to drive with caution and discipline on the road, advising against speeding and wrongful overtaking.
