Eshiem (W/R), April 17, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has engaged residents of Eshiem, a community in the Anoe Electoral Area, to take note of their development needs and concerns for redress.
The engagement, led by Mr Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), was part of planned activities to give a platform for residents to voice out their concerns, while allowing the Assembly to also update them of steps being taken to address those issues.
Mr Bismark Eshun, the Assembly Member for Anoe Electoral Area, during the event said one of the community’s main challenges was the issue of erratic electricity power supply in the area.
According to him, the situation was having a significant impact on the daily lives and livelihoods of the people.
He said: “Our biggest challenge here in Eshiem is electrification extension to some parts of the community.
“We were connected to the national grid some 26 years ago and since then, no additions have been made, meanwhile, the community has expanded within that time.”

Mr Eshun noted that the situation had put pressure on the only transformer in the community, resulting in unstable power supply in the area.
He, therefore, appealed to the STMA to take urgent steps to help resolve the issue.
Other residents also raised concerns about their water situation, inadequate toilet facilities, and security among others.
The MCE, responding to their concerns, said the Assembly had taken note of the electricity power situation in the community, and that steps had already been initiated to address it.
He said: “As we speak, we have engaged Energy Commission on the matter, and the community has been listed as part of others that need some interventions.”
On other issues, Mr Faidoo gave the assurance that the Assembly would make plans to include them in their budgets to ensure funds were allocated to help resolve the challenges to improve upon their living standards.
