Ho, Sept. 8, GNA-Engage Now Africa (ENA), with support from the Rotary E-Club of Ghana, has donated essential sanitary and medical supplies to the Ho-Kpodzi E.P. Health Centre to support healthcare delivery.
The items, which included liquid soap, detergents, and hand gloves, were produced by the ENA’s adult literacy students as part of their vocational training.
Mr Francis Korbla Wama, the Volta Regional Representative for Engage Now Africa, said the donation formed part of their activities marking this year’s World Literacy Day.
He noted that the organisation firmly believed literacy and healthcare were deeply interconnected.
“A clean health centre saves lives, clean hands protect newborns, and clean wards prevent infections,” Mr Wama said.
Mr Wama stated that the gesture was also their way of practicing public health, as clean water and regular handwashing remained key factors in disease prevention.
The donation, he said, also served as an acknowledgment of the health workers who labour day and night to keep citizens safe.
He explained that the organisation focused on three core pillars: training adults to read, write, and speak basic English; sensitising the public against the discrimination of persons living with albinism; and combating human trafficking.
Mr Wama revealed that since the inception of their adult literacy initiative, the programme had graduated over 15,000 learners nationwide, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills to improve their livelihoods.
He expressed gratitude to the Rotary E-Club of Ghana for its unwavering support of adult literacy and community development.
“The partnership between our two organizations proves that when NGOs, service clubs, and health workers unite, the community wins,” he added.
Dr Jumana Sfarjilani, a Physician Specialist and Rotarian President, Rotary E-Club of Ghana, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, stated that the initiative aligned with their community empowerment agenda.
She said Rotary was entirely about service to humanity, and this year their focus was on creating a lasting impact, and equipping students with entrepreneurial skills was central to that goal.
“As Rotarians, we believe that the most meaningful way to serve is not only to give, but to empower people with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to improve their own lives and communities,” she said.
Dr Jumana Sfarjilani, stated that it was in this spirit that the Rotary E-Club of Ghana partnered with Engage Now Africa to provide vocational skills training for adult learners, particularly women, in Ho.
“As we mark, Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month, this initiative reminds us that education and empowerment extend beyond the classroom,” she added.
The Rotarian President stated that the gesture reflected Rotary’s 2026–2027 theme, “Creating Lasting Impact”—empowering people today and strengthening communities for tomorrow.
She explained that equipping participants with entrepreneurial skills was necessary to create opportunities for individuals to earn a living, care for their families and look towards the future with greater confidence and dignity.
Dr Jumana Sfarjilani said the items would support the facility in infection prevention and control, promoting a cleaner and safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
Mr Tsatsu Adjaklo, the Nurse Manager at the facility, expressed profound gratitude to both Engage Now Africa and the Rotary E-Club of Ghana for the gesture.
He assured the benefactors that the supplies would be used effectively to enhance safety and duty execution, while appealing to other corporate bodies and philanthropic organisations to emulate the gesture.
