Residents of Assin Asamang decry lack of clinic in community

Assin Asamang (C/R), April 24, GNA – Residents of Assin Asamang in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region have raised the alarm over the absence of a clinic, making life unbearable when there was an emergency.

Access to healthcare delivery, they indicated, was very vital and must be treated with urgency.

Mr Gregory Ankomah Gyakye, Assemblyman for the area, said residents were forced to travel long distances to New Edubiase and Assin Fosu often under risky conditions to seek medical care.

He made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a health screening and counselling session he organised for communities within his electoral area.

The communities included Assin Asamang, Nyadoam, Lumanata, Akwanhiam, Bafour and Asmah.

The residents were screened for high blood pressure, malaria, typhoid and HIV in addition to urine, cholesterol levels, liver and kidney checks.

Mr Gyakye appealed to the government, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Member of Parliament to facilitate the construction of a health facility for the area.

Ms Richlove Acheampong, Senior Health Nurse, who led the medical team revealed that a high number of residents, particularly women, recorded high blood pressure levels.

She therefore urged residents to prioritise regular medical check-ups to ensure early detection and management of health conditions.

Residents who benefitted from the exercise expressed appreciation to Mr Gyakye, but stressed that more needed to be done to meet their health needs.
