Nwawasu, (Bono), April 21, GNA – Mr Awudu Razack, the Chairman of the Nwawasu Unit Committee in the Sunyani Municipality has expressed concern about growing incidents of snake bites in the area.
He said the predominantly farming community, near Atronie in the Municipality had over 5,000 people, worrying that the people had to travel by bicycle or walk distances to the Atronie health Center whenever there was an emergency and to access medical care.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nwawasu, Mr Razack appealed for a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to enable the people to access healthcare.
He said a CHPS compound would also serve adjoining communities like Asamoakrom, Akenkensu, Kuffuor Camp, Ankamakrom and Tuobodom.
“The snake bites are becoming too much to bear”, he stated, worrying that recently a victim of snake bite died on the way when he was being sent to the Atronie Health Centre for medical care.
Mr Razack added that his uncle was also bitten by a snake two months ago and he was still at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital responding to treatment.
