Jaman South MCE urges community members to plant trees

Drobo, (Bono), April 10, GNA-Madam Siata Watara, the Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has advised the community members in the area to plant more trees to serve as windbreaks.

She expressed concern about severity of the rains in the area in the season, worrying that most often the rains accompanied incessant lightning and windstorms and caused extensive damage to buildings, structures and houses in the municipality.

Mad Watara’s gave the advice in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in connection with a downpour which hit parts of the municipality on Thursday April 10, 2026, and badly damaged some properties at Drobo, the municipal capital.

She bemoaned the level of damage caused by the rain and urged the people to plant and nurture trees around the houses and buildings worrying that the weather pattern in the area had changed for some time now.

Mad Watara noted that it was difficult to predict the weather and asked the people to take proactive measures and to protect lives and properties as the rains set-in.

She cited that a similar downpour flooded and damaged many houses at Kwasibourkrom, near Drobo advising that: “We shouldn’t wait for the National Tree Planting Exercise in June before we plant and nurture trees”.

Mad Watara said tree planting remained the collective responsibility of all citizens, saying that: “If we plant trees then we protect our own properties”, and advised community members to also stop putting structures and buildings at waterways and flood prone areas.
