Global Evangelical Church establishes Education Unit to coordinate her schools

Accra, April 22, 2026 — The Global Evangelical Church (GEC) has established an Education Unit to coordinate all schools operated by her congregations across the country.

The move which followed the approval of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in November 2025, is aimed at streamlining oversight and improving collaboration among church-run schools, while ensuring alignment with national education standards.

Rev. Jedidiah Azumah, Tema Presbytery Chairman of the GEC, who made this known, said under the new arrangement, all schools run by GEC congregations will be supervised by the Education Unit at the church’s Head Office.

He said Presbyteries had been mandated to liaise with congregations within their jurisdictions to facilitate the coordination process on behalf of the central unit.

Addressing the 2026 Tema Presbytery Conference at Sakumono, Tema West, Rev. Azumah explained that the Head Office had not taken over existing schools.

“It is intended to collate reports from the schools and channel them through the Education Unit to the Ghana Education Service as part of a broader transition process,” he said.

He encouraged all congregations to view the development as a positive step toward strengthening education delivery, rather than a loss of control over their institutions.

He stressed that the Unit would enhance coordination, improve reporting systems, and support the long-term growth of GEC’s educational initiatives across Ghana

Rev. Azumah further urged other congregations with available land to consider establishing schools to expand access to education within the church and at the national level.

In the Tema Presbytery, four congregations are currently operating schools. These include Ashaiman Ebenezer, Tema Community Four, Michel Camp (Shalom 1), and Nungua (Rohi Chapel).
