Accra, April 25, GNA – The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has awarded a GHS 400 million contract for the procurement of medical equipment to establish a new teaching hospital at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The initiative is part of government’s programme to strengthen tertiary healthcare delivery and enhance the capacity of public universities to provide globally competitive training and services.

A statement from GETfund copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Hospital is expected to serve as a hub for clinical training, advanced medical research, and specialised healthcare.

It will provide hands-on training opportunities for medical students, support innovation in key medical fields, and improve access to quality healthcare in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

Mr. Paul Adjei, Administrator of GETFund, commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his sustained role in championing the establishment of the Hospital.

As Chancellor of KNUST, he engaged stakeholders and advocated for investment to support medical training and healthcare delivery.

He also acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, for her leadership in advancing the project.

Stakeholders in the education and health sectors have welcomed the intervention, describing it as a strategic investment that will enhance Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and human resource capacity.
