Akatsi (V/R), April 10 GNA – The Sogakope Circuit Court has remanded Mawuli Nkegbe, a 45-year-old kente weaver and trader, into police custody over his alleged involvement in an armed robbery attack on Elshadai Enterprise at Akatsi Tatorme, in the Akatsi South Municipality.
The plea of Nkegbe was not taken, and he is expected to reappear on April 21.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 3, between 1830 and 1900 hours, during which four persons sustained gunshot injuries.
Presenting the case, Ahmed Ben Kasim, Akatsi South Municipal Crime Officer, told the court, presided over by Naddado Mack-Ali Junior, that the suspect was arrested on April 6 through an intelligence-led operation.
He said an iPhone 12 belonging to one of the victims was retrieved from the suspect.
The prosecution prayed for more time to conclude investigations while the accused remained in custody, a request the court granted.
According to police, about six masked men armed with guns attacked the Elshadai drinks depot at Akatsi Tatorme, shooting a worker in the leg before breaking into the accounts section and making away with an unspecified amount of cash.
Three other residents sustained injuries from stray bullets as the attackers fired indiscriminately while fleeing.
The attack is part of a series of robbery incidents in the municipality, including a similar case at Dorima Enterprise on January 10.
Residents and business owners remain fearful amid the recurring criminal activities.
