Agortorme (V/R), April 8, GNA-The Chief and people of Agortorme in the Ketu South Municipality have marked the maiden edition of the Nugoryiza Easter Celebration, an initiative aimed at promoting unity and mobilising resources towards the construction of a community ICT centre.
The event brought together residents, community leaders, and patrons from within and outside the area, all united by a shared vision of development through technology and education.
Mr Felix Akonta Akakpo, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi, a philanthropist and Special Guest of Honour, called on the youth to embrace unity as a key driver of development.
He pledged his support towards the ICT project, announcing a donation of 50 bags of cement and a commitment to provide 50 computers upon completion of the facility.
Torgbui Agbetsizewu III, Chief of Agortorme, in his address, described the celebration as not only a moment of festivity but also an opportunity for reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to community development.
“Easter reminds us of sacrifice, hope, and new beginnings. As a person, we must embrace these values and apply them to the growth and transformation of Agortorme,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of unity, noting that development cannot thrive in a divided community.
“Where there is unity, there is strength, and where there is strength, there is progress. Let us put aside our differences, whether political, familial, or personal, and work together for the advancement of our community,” he urged.
The Chief appealed to citizens both at home and in the diaspora to contribute meaningfully to development efforts through ideas, resources, and active participation in communal initiatives.
Touching on the role of the youth, Torgbui Agbetsizewu described them as the backbone and future of the community and urged them to remain focused on education, skills development, and good character.
He cautioned against social vices, particularly the use of illicit substances in schools, stressing the need for discipline and responsible behaviour among young people.

He also called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to play active roles in guiding the youth.
Highlighting the need for an ICT centre, the Chief noted that access to technology and digital skills was essential in today’s world.
“Our community cannot afford to be left behind in the digital age. An ICT centre will provide access to information, enhance learning, and create opportunities for employment,” he said.
He appealed to government, the Member of Parliament, non-governmental organisations, and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative, while also urging citizens in the diaspora to contribute towards the project.
The celebration was met with enthusiasm from residents, many of whom described it as a significant step towards fostering unity and accelerating development in Agortorme.
Participants expressed optimism that the annual event would serve as a platform to mobilise resources and strengthen communal bonds for the overall progress of the area.
