Wenchi, (Bono), March 24, GNA – Mr George Agyemang, the Acting Wenchi Municipal Director of Health has expressed concern about rising cases of Tuberculosis (TB) in the Municipality.
He said the directorate recorded 102 TB cases in 2025; however, added that 80 percent of the cases had been treated, with only 6.7 percent of deaths.
Speaking in an interview with the media at Wenchi to mark the 2026 celebration of the TB Day, Mr Agyemang advised the public to seek early medication, saying that with early detection the cases could be treated.
World TB Day, observed on 24 March each year, was designed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to build public awareness about the global epidemic of TB and efforts to eliminate the disease.
Globally, the 2026 celebration is on the theme: “Yes! We can end TB!” and reflects a shift from reaffirming global ambition to turning commitments into action.
Mr Agyemang called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) philanthropic individuals and organisations as well as the civil society community to intensify education and increase investments to stem the spread of TB in the country.
