Volta youth urged to harness opportunities through new development fund

By Frank Kwame Abbor

Ho (V/R), March 9, GNA – Mr Mathias Alagbo, Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for stronger investment in youth empowerment as thousands of young people participate in skills development programmes.

Mr Alagbo made the call during the launch of the Volta Youth Development Fund in Ho on March 7, 2026, highlighting government and institutional interventions aimed at equipping young people with employable skills.

He said the initiative was designed to complement existing national programmes already providing employment and training opportunities for youth across the Volta Region.

Mr Alagbo noted that more than 2,700 young people in the region had benefited from industrial training support to acquire practical skills for the job market.

He added that programmes under the Youth Employment Agency had also engaged about 3,350 young people in various modules, providing short- to medium-term employment opportunities while longer-term solutions were pursued.

The Youth Organiser further stated that through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), about 10,000 young Ghanaians, including participants from the Volta Region, were being trained and supported with skills and capital to expand existing businesses or establish new ventures.

Despite these interventions, Mr Alagbo stressed the need for additional opportunities for young people in the region and called for greater consideration for Volta youth in national recruitment exercises, particularly into the security services and other public institutions.

He commended Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, for initiating the Volta Youth Development Fund and appealed to corporate organisations, development partners and individuals to contribute to the fund to strengthen youth entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods in the region.
