Accra, March 5, GNA – The High Court in Wa on Wednesday sentenced a serial killer, Shariff Abdulai, to life imprisonment in hard labour for the murder of Issah Yahaya and 22 others.

Abdulai, alias “Cristos,” pleaded guilty to killing 16 people in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi, totaling 23.

A press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Francis Yiribaare, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the convict was arrested on October 6, 2025, following sustained intelligence-led operations and investigations.

Abdulai was subsequently put before the High Court on March 4, 2026, after committal proceedings at the District Magistrate Court.

The convict, who was represented by a lawyer, pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charge of murder.

Upon his own plea, the presiding judge, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, sentenced him to life imprisonment in hard labour.

Abdulai is to serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, the statement said.

DCOP Yiribaare said the Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and would not relent in its efforts to ensuring a safe environment for law-abiding citizens.
