Assin Fosu (C/R), Oct. 30, GNA – The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has begun a series of engagements with police officers across the regions to assess their performance, address operational challenges and introduce new investigative technologies to strengthen crime-fighting efforts.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, disclosed this during a visit to the Central North Police Region, following an earlier engagement with officers of the Central East Police Region at Kasoa.

COP Donkor said the engagements were focused particularly on detectives, with the aim of reviewing achievements in crime investigations, encouraging improved performance and introducing officers to new technologies acquired by the CID.

She also emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering, digital forensics and international cooperation in identifying, investigating and prosecuting criminal offenders.

According to the CID Director-General, the regional visits formed part of an ongoing effort to strengthen police investigations, build the capacity of officers and improve crime-fighting operations across the country.

Responding to concerns about transportation challenges facing the cybercrime unit in the Central North Police Region, COP Donkor said the CID was considering measures to strengthen collaboration between its headquarters and regional cybercrime units.

She explained that the proposed system would assign specific regions to investigators at the CID headquarters to facilitate the efficient handling of cybercrime cases from those areas.

COP Donkor noted that while the CID headquarters continued to handle a large number of cybercrime cases, regional units were also confronted with similar challenges that required coordinated support.

She said concerns raised by officers during the engagement had reinforced the need to implement the proposed arrangement to bridge operational gaps and enhance service delivery.

The Director-General commended the Central North Regional Police Commander and personnel of the command for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty.

She acknowledged that police officers continued to face operational challenges but assured them that management would address their concerns as resources and opportunities became available.

COP Donkor urged personnel to remain committed to the vision of the Ghana Police Service and support the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police to improve policing and public safety nationwide.

She also appealed to the public to engage police commanders directly and report grievances through established channels rather than resorting immediately to the media.

According to her, effective collaboration between the police and the public remained essential for addressing security concerns and promoting national development.
