Tema, March 07, GNA – The Salvation Army Basic School has emerged as the winner of the basic schools’ march past competition during the Tema West Municipality’s commemoration of Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration.
The school took the first position for its neat and orderly display during the parade held under the national theme: “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
Adjei Kojo TWMA 1 Basic School placed second, while Baatsona Basic School came third in the competition.

Other schools that participated in the celebration included Lovely Montessori School, Star Junior High School, Klagon TWMA School, St Gabriel International School and Sakumono TWMA Junior High School.
The event also featured energetic performances from the Boys and Girls Scouts Club of St John Bosco and the Tema Secondary School Cadet Corps.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), paid tribute to the country’s forebears who fought for Ghana’s independence.
He said the theme for this year’s celebration emphasised the need for citizens to work together towards building a prosperous nation and restoring hope among the people.

Mr Totimeh noted that Independence Day served as an opportunity for Ghanaians to reflect on the nation’s journey and honour those who sacrificed for the country’s freedom.
He said the assembly was working to ensure that residents benefited from independence through improved infrastructure such as better roads, schools and public facilities.
Mr Totimeh added that the municipality was also making progress in the education sector, saying five students from the municipality performed excellently in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the national level.
One of the outstanding students honoured at the event was Master Yaw Quainoo of Prince of Peace Presbyterian School, who was adjudged the best male student among private schools in the municipality.
