Independence not only freedom, but a responsibility – MCE

Sekondi (W/R), March 07, GNA – Mr Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has reminded the citizenry that independence is not only about freedom, but a collective responsibility towards building a peaceful, prosperous, and united nation.

He was speaking at the 69th Independence Day Parade, organised by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), at Sekondi.

It was on the theme: “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” and brought together 16 Senior High and Basic Schools who participated in a march past.

Mr Faidoo said theme for the celebration spoke directly to the dreams and aspirations of Ghanaians and that the country could achieve great things when the citizens worked together with determination and honesty.

He said: “Here in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, we fully support the national vision of building prosperity and restoring hope, and our responsibility is to translate national policies into real improvements in the lives of our people.”

The MCE stated that the Assembly was committed to improving infrastructure within the metropolis like roads, markets, schools, sanitation systems, and other public facilities that were important enhancing the living standards of the people.

“When our infrastructure improves, businesses grow, communities become safer, and our people enjoy better living conditions,” Mr Faidoo added.

He said they would also continue to work closely with residents, market women, transport unions, and community groups to promote proper sanitation and waste management practices to help keep the metropolis clean.

The MCE charged the people to renew their commitment to building a better Metropolis and a stronger Ghana by contributing positively to national development.

As part of the ceremony, awards were presented to some students who distinguished themselves in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
