Agona Swedru(C/R), March 02, GNA- The Royal Asona Family of Agona Swedru, has officially informed the Swedruman Council of Chiefs led by Nana Kweku Esieni V, Nifahene and Regent of the town of the passing on and 40-days observation of Nana Dr Bright Oduro Kwarteng.
According to Mr Paul Arthur, spokesperson, the Royal Asona family head, Ebusuapanyin Kweku Essuon , has fixed Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for the observation of the 40 days celebration of the late chief.
Abusuapanyin Kweku Essuon told the Council that Nana Oduro Kwarteng was selected to succeed the late Swedruhene, Nana Kobena Botwe II and plans were underway for his installation with the stool name Okokodurfo Kojo Nyarko II.
He said unfortunately, Nana fell ill in the later part of 2024 and was flown to the United Kingdom (UK) for medical treatment, however, on Tuesday November 4, 2025, the family received a shocking news of his passing on to glory.
He said the whole of Agona Swedru township had been thrown into mourning ever since.
Nana Oduro Kwarteng was appointed former Chief Director of Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture under President Mahama’s first Administration.
The Late Chief was also a senior Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and the 2020 Aspiring National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP}.
Ms Faustina Egyiriba Boison, one of the nieces of the late chief said her late Uncle was very supportive and always had words of encouragement for his nephews and nieces and that he would forever be remembered by his family members.
