Ho, March 27, GNA-The Volta Regional Police Command has clarified circumstances surrounding a viral video on suspected narcotic drugs seizure.
The clarification follows the circulation of footage on social media, purportedly showing details of a police operation involving suspected narcotic substances.
A press release issued by the Head of Public Affairs Unit in Ho, signed by Chief Inspector Francis Gomado stated that the video did not accurately represent the facts of the operation.
According to the statement, the Police on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at about 1830 hours, received credible intelligence that unidentified persons had offloaded sacks suspected to be containing narcotic drugs in a forest near Ahunda in the Adaklu District.
It said a team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit was immediately deployed to the area and, upon arrival around 2100 hours, discovered 39 sacks of dried plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in the bush.
“The exhibits were secured and transported using a Police transfer truck with registration number GP 239, supported by a Nissan pickup with registration number GP 905,” the statement noted.
The Command indicated that the retrieved items were currently in custody, pending forensic examination and further investigations.
It emphasised that the viral video should be disregarded, as it did not reflect the true circumstances under which the operation was conducted.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to combating illicit drug activities in the region and urged the public to support ongoing efforts to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, some members of the public have raised concerns over unanswered questions regarding the origin, ownership and movement of the suspected consignment, calling for further updates from the Police as investigations continue.
