Mafi-Kumikpo (V/R), March 04, GNA – Pencils of Promised, an education focused non-government organisation (NGO) has constructed a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for Mafi Kumikpo-Dekpo R/C Basic School in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The intervention is a huge relief for the school, which is one of the district’s most under-resourced institutions, and it is expected to provide an enabling environment for both teachers and pupils to engage in effective teaching and learning.

Mr Freeman Gobah, the Country Director of Pencils of Promise, stated that the effort was consistent with the organisation’s goal to enhance quality education in the country by providing necessary facilities.

He urged the school authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the edifice including the storage facility provided to collect and store rainwater, assuring that the school would soon be connected to the national water system.

Mr Gabby Alexander Hottordze, Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, praised Pencils of Promise for its efforts at improving educational access through provision of infrastructure that created a conducive environment for learners and teachers.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting projects aimed at accelerating development within the constituency, creating jobs, and bringing positive transformation to the lives of the people.

Mr Addison Dodzi Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive for Central Tongu, promised to donate 2,000 pieces of furniture to schools in the district including the Mafi-Kumikpo-Dekpo Basic School, to improve educational delivery.

He assured the people that his outfit and the Assembly were advancing necessary plans to ensure that every sector of the community benefits from development projects.

Mr Sampson Akpo, Headteacher of the school, also commended Pencils of Promise for the gesture and promised to ensure that the facilities were properly maintained for the overall benefit of the pupils.
