Kumasi, March 03, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched the maiden inter-market fire safety quiz competition in Kumasi.
The initiative, instituted by the Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Danielle M N Sarpong, aims to educate and equip traders with knowledge on fire safety measures to minimise market fire outbreaks in the country.
In attendance at the programme were fire officers, the Managing Director of the Kumasi City Market, the Chairman of the Kejetia Market, and traders from Tafo, Asafo, Atonso, and Kumasi City markets.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO I), Mr Peter Tetteh, Ashanti Regional Commander of the GNFS, said the competition would be held in three zones, with the first taking place at Kejetia.
He noted that the finals of the competition are expected to take place in April this year.
ACFO I Tetteh indicated that although traders are not firefighters, their knowledge and understanding of fire safety measures would help reduce the number of fire outbreaks recorded in the region and nationwide.
Additionally, he said the initiative seeks to safeguard market investments and economic activities in the country, promoting good livelihoods.
ACFO I Tetteh encouraged traders in the region to take advantage of the competition to demonstrate their understanding of the education and awareness campaigns led by the GNFS.
