Kadjebi (O/R), March 19, GNA – Students of the Kadjebi E.P Junior High School (JHS), primary and Kindergarten (KG) in the Oti Region have deepened their celebration of Ghana Month, with a colourful display of traditional attire.
This is aimed at promoting cultural identity and heritage among young learners.
The event, held on Thursday, March 19, saw students dressed in a variety of Ghanaian traditional outfits, including fugu, jaramia, kaba and slite, as well as kente attire, representing diverse ethnic backgrounds across the country.
Mr Samuel Drah, the Headmaster of the school, explained in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the initiative formed part of efforts to instill a sense of cultural pride and awareness in the students.
He said traditional attire served as a symbol of Ghanaian identity and heritage, adding that it was important for the younger generation to understand and appreciate their roots.
“Ghanaians must know their culture and identity and preserve it for future generations,” he said.
Mr Drah indicated that the school, which valued cultural diversity, would continue to organise such activities, to complement academic work with cultural education, thereby ensuring the holistic development of learners.
Some of the students expressed excitement about the initiative, describing it as both educational and enjoyable.
Master Hodzor Christson, a form three student, said the celebration had helped him to deeply appreciate African traditions and urged his peers to embrace their cultural values and desist from perceiving them as outdated or fetish.
“Tradition is part of who we are, and we must protect it,” he said.
The Ghana Month celebration is observed annually in March, to promote Ghanaian culture, history, and values, with institutions across the country organising activities to highlight national heritage.
