Akatsi (VR), March 19, GNA – Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, has disclosed that work has commenced on several major road projects that were previously abandoned within the Municipality.
The projects, covering a total length of 58.5km, included the Akatsi-Korve-Ave Dakpa, Akatsi-Dagbamate-Avenorpeme, Xavi-Suipe, and Dagbamate-Avenopedo-Abor roads.
In an interaction with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Dagba revealed that these projects, awarded by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, were abrogated in October 2017 under the New Patriotic Party-led (NPP) government and signed by Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the then Minister of Roads and Highways, for various reasons.
He indicated that once fully completed, the roads would significantly boost transport and economic activities, linking adjoining farming communities and business hubs such as Ave-Dakpa to Akatsi.
Mr Dagba further stated that the feeder road projects, funded by the Government of Ghana, had been awarded to a new construction firm, Timeline Innovation.
He called on residents and community members to cooperate with workers, to ensure the timely execution of the projects.
Mr Dagba also assured residents within the Akatsi township that the government planned to construct the needed township roads.
The resumption of work is expected to improve connectivity, ease movement for residents and traders, and support broader socio-economic development in Akatsi South.
Some residents engaged by the GNA expressed appreciation to Mr Dagba and Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively, for their unwavering efforts to bring the projects back to fruition.
