Adaklu Waya (V/R), Mar 24, GNA – GOSANET Foundation, an Implementing Partner for Stop Tuberculosis (TB) Partnership Ghana, has commemorated the annual World TB Day, with a community engagement durbar and free health screening at Adaklu Waya in the Volta region.

It was on the theme “Yes, We can end TB. Led by countries. Powered by People.”

The Day is commemorated on March 24 annually to raise awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB and to accelerate efforts to end the global epidemic.

The event also coincided with the global observance of Good Deeds Day 2026, which was also on the theme “Doing good in our communities.”

Mr Samuel Yao Atidzah, the Executive Director of GOSANET Foundation, said though TB was one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world, ending it was not aspirational, it was achievable.

“TB remained a serious but preventable and curable disease,” he stated.

The Executive Director noted that the importance of early TB testing and community awareness creation could not be glossed over in the fight against the elimination of the disease.

He therefore encouraged the people to seek early medical attention when they experienced symptoms such as persistent coughing, weight loss, night sweats, or chest pains.

Mr Atidzah said the Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and the Adaklu District Health Directorate would continue to bring health services closer to vulnerable communities in the district, particularly through community-based health screenings and education.

He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening community health systems and supporting national efforts to eliminate TB in the country through sustained education, community engagements, and collaboration with key health stakeholders.

Mr Atidzah stated that they would continue focusing on reducing stigma associated with TB, encouraging community members to support patients undergoing treatment.

Mr Matthew Ayamba, the Adaklu District Director of Health Services, praised the GOSANET Foundation for their untiring efforts to support the Health Directorate to improve healthcare delivery in the district.

Madam Dzifa Adu, the Adaklu District TB Focal Person, was present to witness the event and to also lend her support.
