Bunso (E/R), March 30, GNA – The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research–Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute (CSIR–PGRRI) has marked the year’s Heritage Month with a call for Ghanaians to uphold their rights and responsibilities to help drive national progress.

Highlighting its significance, Dr Daniel Ashie-Kotey, the Director of CSIR–PGRRI, stated that support from earlier generations for visionary leaders such as Dr Kwame Nkrumah had secured many of the national assets the country benefits from today.

He said the Heritage Month observance provided a platform to highlight the contributions and sacrifices of forbearers whose leadership shaped Ghana’s independence and development.

Dr Ashie-Kotey made the remarks at the Institute’s Heritage Month celebration held in Bunso in the Eastern Region.

Heritage Month, marked annually in March, honours Ghana’s cultural heritage, indigenous traditions and the leaders who championed sovereignty.

The celebration promotes the patronage of local products and encourages support for local businesses to strengthen a “self‑sustaining nation.”

Staff were recognised under the Best Dressed Female and Male category, with awards going to Mr William Amoako-Antwi, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress–General Agriculture Workers’ Union (GAWU), and Mrs Grace Gyamfua, Secretary of the CSIR–PGRRI Senior Staff Association (SSA).

The event featured activities including Adadamu Nnwom, a catwalk, and an after‑party showcasing Pito, Kofi Brokeman and bayere ne koobi.

The CSIR–PGRRI works to ensure the conservation and effective use of plant genetic resources to support food security and sustainable agricultural development.
