Wa, (UW/R), March 8, 2026 – Alhaji Adamu N.S. Dassana, a former District Chief Executive of the Wa West District, has donated assorted items to support both the Muslim and Christian communities in the area, observing Ramadan and Lent.

The items, which included 60 bags of sugar and cartons of milk, were to be distributed to the members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) observing Ramadan and Lent, and some traditional and religious leaders across all 17 zones of the constituency.

Speaking at a brief ceremony at Wechiau to present the items, Alhaji Dasaana, who was also the Upper West Regional Coordinator of the Free Senior High School Programme, said the gesture was to help mitigate the difficulty people might be facing in observing the holy sacraments.

He said it was also to demonstrate his affection for the NDC party and the people of the constituency and serve as a major relief to the people observing fasting by reducing the stress associated with the demand for such essential items for fasting.

“With or without this donation, our people will still fast, but as tradition demands, this is just as a gesture in recognition of our brotherliness and a token of support to our brothers and sisters who are fasting”, Alhaji Dasaana explained.

Alhaji Dassana urged the leadership of the NDC party in the constituency to ensure equitable distribution of the items to avoid disgruntlement within the party because of the donation.

He indicated that fasting seasons were period of love, unity, and peaceful coexistence, which informed his donation aimed at promoting peace, unity, and togetherness among the people.

He also prayed for unity and togetherness within the NDC party and among the people of the constituency in general, noting that peace and development are interlinked.

Mr Matthew Vaare, the Wa West Constituency Chairman of the NDC expressed gratitude to Mr Dasaana for his generosity.

He said the donation would complement the efforts of residents in observing Ramadan and Lent, as well as reduce the pressure on him as a party leader in providing such support to some party members who were fasting.

“I am glad because I have received calls from some people requesting sugar this season. With this donation, everyone will get some, and I will not have to worry about getting them these things again”, he said.

He observed that if the Wa West constituency had more individuals like Alhaji Dasaana, the constituency would have experienced significant development.

He assured the people that the items would be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries to ensure a successful fasting season and sustained peace in the constituency.
