Bechem, (Ahafo), March 3, GNA – Mrs Nancy Arthur, the Headmistress of the Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC) in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo region has paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of the school for their vision and foresight.
She said the Bechem PRESEC was progressing academically in achieving the vision of providing holistic education, moral uprightness, and high academic excellence.
Mrs Arthur praised Ghana’s first President the late Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah as well as late Nana Fosu Gyeabour, the Paramount Chief of Bechem Traditional Area, late Kwame Awuku Yirenkyi, the first Headmaster of the school for their foresights.
She said their pioneering role in laying down the solid foundation for the school to thrive remained unparalleled and acknowledged and appreciated the immeasurable contributions of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Bechem Traditional Council as well.
Mrs Arthur gave the commendation when addressing a durbar to climax the 60th anniversary celebration of the school at Bechem, saying that school had achieved high academic and moral standards, empowering graduates to fit into the global socio-economic milieu.
She also commended the management, staff, and non-teaching staff, saying that the efforts of the teachers had greatly improved student discipline and academic performance.
The anniversary was on the theme: “60 years of impactful education: Honoring the past, shaping the future”.


Dr Mrs Phillis Agyeman Nyarko, the Principal of the Abetifi Presbyterian College of Education, who was the guest speaker also acknowledged and appreciated the foresight and sacrifices made by the founders of the school.
She acknowledged the contributions of the school in churning out the quality human resource base required for accelerated national development, saying that the Bechem PRESEC had in over six decades produced distinguished personalities occupying enviable leadership positions in all spheres of life.
“As we buckle up for action, let’s be mindful of the fact that today’s youth, including our students, are faced with a rapidly changing world in technological advancement, globalization and its dynamics, competitiveness, digitalization, artificial intelligence”, she stated.
Dr Nyarko expressed concern about complexities in students’ behaviours and characteristics including rising indiscipline and attributed those deviant behaviours partly to myriad exposures as well as challenges of modern life.
She called for collaboration between stakeholders and school authorities to tackle the growing student indiscipline and acts of lawlessness being experienced in many SHSs in the country.
The Reverend Benjamin Appiah, the Brong-Ahafo Presbytery Chairperson of the PCG, and Chairman of the Board of Governors for Bechem PRESEC described the anniversary as a testament to the unwavering dedication of educators, the resilience of students, and the vision of the Bechem community.
Prominent personalities including Mr Nii Lantey Vanderpuje, the National Coordinator of the DRIP and an alumnus, Mrs Charity Gardener, the Ahafo Regional Minister and Mr Abraham Fletcher, Ahafo Regional Director of Education attended the event.
Also in attendance were Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Ms Agnes Amihere, the Tano South Municipal Director of Education and Nana Asiwobour Osei Bonsu III, the Paramount Chief of the Bechem Traditional Area.
